Hello there, my name is Skylar Clapperton Pritchard and I am so excited for you to be part of Too Many Exclamation Points. As the inaugural post, I wanted to share what you can expect from this space in the weeks, months and (with a prayer) years to come — an about page, if you will.
Too Many Exclamation Points is envisioned out of a desire for more authenticity, vulnerability and honesty as it relates to real life and careers for women.
I’ve always loved hearing people’s stories about their life, career journey, families, friendships and talking about the things that we all want to know - how are you navigating office politics, does everyone else have strong friend groups, what health insurance did you pick, are you as annoyed about this as I am?
I often feel like a lot of profiles and conversations shared in newsletters, on blogs, or in podcasts feature female entrepreneurs whose solution to burnout and frustrating work environments is to transition a “side hustle” into a full-time business. A new business and leaving difficult environments are to be celebrated, but that isn’t necessarily the purpose of Too Many Exclamation Points. My desire is for this to be a space to hear from everyday, ordinary women who are living the 9-5, carpool, figuring out what’s for dinner, where am I spending the holidays, sort of life. It’s like hearing from your sister’s best friend or a former college floormate.
I’ve gained so much in my career and personal life from having the space and margin for honest conversations with my colleagues and friends; everything from what we’re being paid and whether we’re getting bonuses, to how our insurance works and managing relationships with complicated family members. My hope is that Too Many Exclamation Points becomes that space for you.
You may be wondering what can I expect from this and I’m very happy to tell you. Too Many Exclamation Points will be a weekly newsletter (starting January 1) through Substack where every other week we will sit down for a conversation with a fellow female navigating career, family and finances. Opposite those conversations will be essays and reflections on the things that I’m fired up about, my too many exclamation points if you will, e.g. things I see in the news and want to add my commentary on, a good book I read recently, or a personal reflection on a timely topic.
Too Many Exclamation Points is a reader supported publication and to thank those who support this work through monthly, yearly and founding subscriptions, a podcast of interviews and conversations will be available, as well as the opportunity to share your own commentary on the things leaving you with too many exclamation points!
I do hope you’ll subscribe and join on this journey to navigating all of life’s moments, the ordinary and the extraordinary.
There are some incredible conversations to come as we kick this off in the new year, so be sure to subscribe to Too Many Exclamation Points, share the Substack with a friend who you think would enjoy it, and comment below if something resonated with you this week.
I’m grateful you’re here and wish you a week ahead with too many exclamation points! — Skylar
